The first time I kissed a boy

And 5 of my favourite movies from the 90s that will transport you back to my teenage years

THE 90s ARE BACK

(OK…I know…they’ve been “on trend” for a while now, but because I’m allergic to trends, I have been avoiding talking about it)

Bum bags, high waisted thick denim jeans that make everyone look like they have camel toes (pass on that one, thanks) and a whole bunch of other stuff.

It’s like a trip down memory lane! To me it all seems like yesterday and at the same time a lifetime ago. And now I’m one of “those” older people who get to say “I remember when those were fashionable when I was a kid”.

And, as much as I avoid trends, I have to admit, the 90s do hold a special place in my heart because that was when I experienced so many of my “firsts”.

Ah… I get so sentimental when I think about those years.

Remember your teenage years? So many adventures, discovery, confusion and reckless abandon!!

First loves

The first time I kissed a boy - I was 15. his name was Guy (I found him on FB recently and I still think he's hot), he was my crush for ages and he came to pick me up one night on his quad bike and we hung out and it was super awkward and I think I have gotten much better at kissing since then haha.

My first heartbreak - Not Guy, I broke up with him not long after the weird awkward kiss.

My first CD - Pretty sure it was U2 Achtung Baby

My first pair of Levi’s 501s.

My first pair of Doc Martens - Classic 8 hole in Black. At one point I painted the soles in Green, Yellow and Red because #Reggae. I still miss them.

My First cigarette - 1994 in an underground clubhouse where my friends and I hung out and made out on old, mouldy couches listening to Nirvana and Metallica and watching movies on VCR… and no, I don’t smoke anymore

My first (and only) alcohol poisoning - 1996 a small dingy pub in Greece, listening to The Presidents of The United States of America and getting wasted with 3 boys from Essex.

My first live music concert - U2 1997 in Tel Aviv,

My first three-day music festival (Where I caught my first boyfriend cheating on me in a sleeping bag with another girl - that was my first heartbreak. I was devastated and my dad came to pick me up and I cried all the way home and I think now how this might have also been the first time my dad's heart broke - seeing his little girl like that….)

The list goes on.

And while you’ll never catch me wearing a bum bag or corduroy flares on my daily run, in honour of the 90s and in memory of my awesome teenage years, I’d like to share with you my top five personal favourite 90s movies that left a true cultural legacy in my life.

So snuggle up with your lover or your bestie (or both), make yourself some microwave popcorn (because the 90s were all about how to make EVERYTHING in the microwave, even roast chicken. How delusional *eye roll*) and get stuck into some of these awesome flicks:

1. Natural Born Killers

Tarantino…Such a genius. Epic soundtrack too

2. Pulp Fiction

Another EPIC soundtrack, Tarantino always delivers

3. The Big Lebowski

You Can’t go wrong with The Coen Bros. I’m a massive fan of all of their work

4. Stealing Beauty

Stealing Beauty Captured me mostly for its enchanting Tuscan scenery and moody sensuality not to mention all the Italian. It’s a good one to watch on a rainy day with a lover and a joint and some candles and who knows if you’ll even get to the end.

5. Reality Bites

Reality Bites (A cult movie with an awesome soundtrack AND where some of my favourite quotes are from. Like “The establishment owes me a snickers bar” and “Don’t bogart the can, man”)

So there you have it - A little trip with me down memory lane to a time where there were no smartphones and we used film cameras and people called one another on the home phone, when I was defining my identity and pushing boundaries on my way to becoming who I am today.

And...

my fave movies from those times.

I hope you like, and if you do - please share and subscribe and

Comment with your favourite movies or memories from when you were a teenager

Love Always
