Linen - King of cool

Elle's top picks for linen blazers.

“Dressing well is a form of good manners.”

~Tom Ford

Spring has sprung!

Many of my clients find it challenging to look stylish during summer. It's true, the colder weather allows us to wear layers, jackets, scarves and boots...However... You can still look fly in the warmer seasons.

Let's talk about how we can keep you looking cool through the warmer weather!

One of the best ways to sharpen up any outfit is throwing on a gorgeous, well fitting blazer.

Alas...when it's sweltering hot outside, wearing a jacket is a bit of a punishment.

Unless.....

Linen!

Linen is a textile made from the fibres of the flax plant. The fibre is very strong, absorbent and dries faster than cotton. Garments made of linen are valued for their exceptional coolness and freshness in hot and humid weather. Perfect for summer!

So, linen blazers, or - even better - unlined linen blazers are your solution to looking hot and staying cool.

Unlined is the coolest option of all because it breathes beautifully and you're wearing less fabric. The image below is what an unlined jacket looks like.

I know lots of people steer away from linen because of the crush factor, but in all honesty, it's part of the charm and it gives the whole look character. Linen is fabulous. Just do it.

OK, so if you're picking up what I'm putting down and you're keen to check out how you can get your cool on, I've selected some of my own personal fave linen jackets:

1. MJ Bale's Tollegno unlined linen blazer

An unlined jacket is ideal for the hot weather, it feels like you're wearing nothing at all. Throw it on with a pair of shorts and a T-shirt for a casual catch up with friends or add it to dress pants and a shirt in the evening for a relaxed, polished vibe.

2. Orlebar Brown's Navy Edgar Slim-Fit Unstructured Linen Blazer

A casual, unstructured style in Navy - This one is also unlined so super cool to wear. You can't lose with this one, but it is a much more relaxed style so it won't take you as far as a cocktail event, but definitely great for a dressed down vibe.

3. Calibre's Raspberry Linen Blazer

This delicious piece is lined, so not as lightweight as unlined, but this colour is irresistible! If you're already covered for all shades of blue - add a splash of colour with this baby and combine it with fresh whites, light blues or even something floral if you're feeling a bit colourful.

*Calibre have 3 other linen blazer to die for in their current collection, but I had to pick one - this is the stand out for me, but be sure to check out their others.

4. Canali's Light-Blue Kei Slim-Fit Herringbone Wool, Silk And Linen-Blend Blazer

Blending fabrics is a great way to help them keep shape, particularly when linen is involved. The wool and silk added here will lend the fabric a stunning flow and lustre, and being natural fibres they will still keep you cool. However, linen alone will keep you cooler, which is why this beauty comes in last for cool effect.
